We are always exploring
fresh and creative ways to

our mission continues to

Planting Seeds for the Future:
The Dr. Larry Wellman Legacy Fundraiser

‍ AHEI is honored to dedicate this fundraiser in loving memory of Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Wellman.
Dr. Wellman passed away after a brief illness on July 30, 2026.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed pediatric training and a fellowship in Neonatology at the University of Wisconsin.

Larry and Grace married in 1990 and built a life together in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, after he joined the academic staff at the University of South Dakota.
Dr. Wellman devoted his life to the care of children and the education of future physicians. He was recognized as an outstanding clinician whose expertise and calm presence brought comfort and hope to families during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. Countless newborns benefited from his exceptional care in the neonatal intensive care unit.
He was honored with the Department of Pediatrics Outstanding Mentor Award for his dedication to instructing the next generation of pediatricians.

Larry and Grace, when not traveling, spent their time volunteering and fundraising for organizations they firmly believed in and supported. Grace has served on committees for AHEI for the past several years. Before serving on a committee, Grace has always been very supportive of AHEI during her years of planning for the Annual Meeting for the AMA Alliance. Larry and Grace always supported one another in their personal volunteering endeavors.

This fundraiser celebrates his remarkable legacy and will continue the work he cared so deeply about. Proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit pediatric and medical student health projects.
