Grant Guidelines

The grant cycle for AHEI runs from January 2 - February 28.

  • All submissions MUST BE RECEIVED no later than midnight EST.

  • Applicants will be notified of their grant status in April.

  • Please read ALL of the information below before applying.

  • Incomplete applications may not be considered.

  • You will need access to either an organizational or personal free Gmail account.

Grant requirements

  • Grants are limited to organizations in the United States with qualified 501(c)3 status or
    that have a fiscal sponsor in the United States with a qualified 501(c)3 status.

  • Grants for the current fiscal year will be accepted from January 2 through February 28, and
    applicants will be notified by April 15 whether they receive a grant or not.
    Grant recipients will be recognized at the Annual Meeting of the AHEI/AMA Alliance.

  • Organizations may request up to $2500 in funding for each project.
    AHEI reserves the right to award partial funding for any project selected.
    AHEI will not fund the same project from the same organization for two (2) consecutive years.

  • AHEI must be recognized as a supporter of the project, in a verbal presentation at the time of the project, and in any written materials printed for the project. Every attempt should be made to include AHEI in social media outreach, promotional activities, and marketing materials.

  • Grant recipients agree to give permission (to permit) the Alliance Health Education Initiative to publish information, photographs, and videos, if available, on its website and in AHEI and AMA Alliance publications.
    High-resolution photographs are preferred but not required for publication purposes.
    Permission to use and publish all information, photographs, and videos submitted is the responsibility of the grant recipients.
    Grant recipients shall obtain and maintain all required releases.

  • A written report must be submitted to AHEI within 60 days of project completion.

  • Any unused funds shall be returned to AHEI within 60 days of project completion.

  • Should the organization be unable to complete the project within a year, AHEI must be notified to discuss all options.

  • All unused funds shall be returned to AHEI within the agreed time, but no later than March 15th of the following year. Failure to submit a project completion report may disqualify an organization from receiving consideration for a future grant.

  • Failure to return unused funds may result in litigation, with all costs associated with the return of the funds, including attorney fees and court costs, will be the obligation of the grant recipient.

**No affiliation with AMA Alliance or any local or state medical alliance is required to apply for a grant from AHEI.

Grant Criteria

  • AHEI is seeking to fund health education initiatives that provide direct hands-on solutions to clearly identified community needs.

  • AHEI seeks projects with a tangible and measurable impact.

  • Priority will be given to projects that improve access to medical care, improve safety, health education, and essential services.

  • The AHEI funding should be allocated to essential elements of a project.

Grant funds cannot be used for:

  • Support of individuals;

  • Event sponsorships, annual fund drives, annual sponsorships or fundraisers, or capital campaigns;

  • Participation in “scholarships”;

  • Political campaigns or lobbying efforts;

  • New small businesses that are established for personal gain or profit;

  • To fund an agency's deficit or endowment;

  • For direct support of religious activities (secular activities provided by religious organizations may be eligible);

  • For salary, support, or overhead;

  • Refreshments and/or paper products, or other items that can easily be donated by community partners for refreshments or entertainment.
    Food that is essential to the program may be considered

  • Direct support of prescription medications;

    ***AHEI reserves the right to investigate and require the return of funds in the event of misuse, which includes, but is not limited to, indication that grant funds have been used for purposes not stated in the grant application, or any of the aforementioned prohibited uses.

Examples of projects that meet the criteria

  1. First aid kits installed in six non-profit facilities that provide training and jobs for individuals with special needs (MO);

  2. Health Habits, a low-income elementary school program that supports good hygiene, health, and confidence by providing personal care products, books, and story time at school (TX);

  3. Medical students who gathered at the AMA annual meeting prepared 160 supply kits to be distributed through Night Ministry. The kits included: socks, underwear, toothbrushes/toothpaste, body wipes, shampoo, conditioner, first aid kits, Vaseline, Advil, winter gloves, and Benadryl.

  4. Grant recipients can include health education initiatives that coincided with:
    community events, continuing medical education for health care professionals, First Aid/CPR/AED Certification, and mental health awareness symposiums.

  5. A middle school campaign to teach students about controlling blood loss to prevent shock, to name a few.

  2. Detailed project budget, including all sources of income and related expenses;

  3. Letter of support (not necessary to be a letter from an Alliance or Alliance member);

  4. Logo image in JPEG format, if available;

  5. List of board members, if applicable.
